*Boozy Fridays Presents the Knickerbocker a la Monsieur Cocktail*
A 90’s cocktail that it had “his” and “her” versions – a la Monsieur and a la Madame.
Jerry Thomas was the first to introduce the Knickbocker in 1862. After that several Bastardized forms made this cocktail the most Popular Drink in 1850s – 1860s. Then it faded away. The last one hears of it is in 1882 when a writer for the New York World admonished “ in the resume of what is good to drink in the summer – time the knickerbocker should not be forgotten” And he is not wrong. With its rum and its lime juice, its syrups and liqueurs, the knickerbocker is the spiritual progenitor of the TIKI Drink. Think of ot as an 1850s Mai Tai – similar drink, different island. (David Wondrich, “Imbibe” )
