El Presidente cocktail @ TBI Boozy Fridays vol. 35

*Boozy Fridays presents “El Presidente” cocktail*

2 rum coctails with same names from different cuban presidents.

The El Presidente was one of the most popular drinks in the U.S. as well, whether served illegally during Prohibition or legally after.

The El Presidente no.1 . Created in the 1920’s in Havana and named for General Carmen menocal the president of cuba before batista. (Dale Degroff (2002), “The Craft of the cocktail” )

El Presidente no.1 formula:

–         45ml White Rum

–         22,5ml Orange Curacao

–         22,5ml Dry vermouth

–         1 Dash of grenadine

Shake with ice and strain into a small cocktail glass

El Presidente vol.2 formula:

–         50 ml  amber Rum

–         25ml vermouth Rosso

– 1 Dash Angostura bitters

 Garnish with Orange peel in a cocktail glass


The Bar Institute’s variation “El César”:

-50ml Diplomatico Blanco

– 25ml Apple juice

– 25ml Fresh Lime juice

– 15 ml Monin Falernum or Orgeat syrup

– 5ml Monin Grenadine syrup

Method: Shaking

Glass: Cocktail

Garnish: Apple slices
